Paper Bowling Pin Match -- CANCELED

About this event

Paper Bowling Pin Match - Please arrive by 1:15 p.m.

  • Match registration fee will be $10, payable in cash on the day of the match.
  • Arrive with an unloaded pistol or revolver. Handguns must be centerfire calibers. Allowable calibers can be found here.
  • Arrive by 1:15 p.m. so that range officers can verify handguns are unloaded, you can register and get a shooter number, and range officers will be able to complete a safety briefing and explain the match procedures.
  • First relay - Match Range Officer (MRO) will call two shooters to the firing line, one shooter in Lane 3, and one shooter in Lane 6. Shooters will take an unloaded pistol or revolver either out of their holster or out of its case, and place it pointed downrange with action open on the bench in front of them.
  • Pistol shooters will place a magazine containing 6 rounds on the bench. Revolver shooters will place 6 rounds on the bench.
  • The MRO will verify both handguns are unloaded.
  • In this first relay, 3 paper bowling pin targets will be placed at 30 feet in front of each shooter. Shooter #1 will have 3 targets, and shooter #2 will have a set of 3 targets.
  • MRO will then instruct shooters to “Load and Make Ready”. The shooters will then load their handguns with 6 rounds. Those using a pistol will chamber one round. Those using a revolver will load their cylinder and close it. Shooters may then aim at their first target.
  • MRO will then instruct shooters to “Standby”.
  • In approximately 3 seconds, a buzzer will sound, and shooters will begin firing. They will have 15 seconds to fire 6 rounds – 2 rounds at each of the 3 targets.
  • After 15 seconds, the buzzer will sound. Both shooters must cease firing prior to the end of the buzzer sounding.
  • Disqualifications will occur for: shots fired before or after the buzzer, alibis, and obviously, any unsafe behavior.
  • The target pins will have different zones, with each zone being worth a different number of points (e.g., pin top = 2 points, neck = 3 points, bottom = 1 point)
  • This will be a double elimination match, so all shooters will proceed to the second relay, where they will have 10 seconds to fire 2 rounds at each of the 3 targets now placed at 20 feet away.
  • The MRO will repeat the firing commands, and the same procedure will be followed.
  • Shooters who have lost no more than one match will proceed to the third relay, again at 20 feet, but now with 5 seconds to fire 2 rounds at each of the 3 targets.
  • First, second, and third place shooters will be awarded prize money originating from the $10 match registration fee.

The match will be followed by snacks in the club meeting room, along with water and soda. Shooters should bring whatever else they would like to drink. The winnings will then be presented.
